Potential Ski Patrollers require a reasonable level of fitness, to enable them to ski all day. They must be competent skiers,
although there is no need to be an expert racer or instructor, etc. Previous first aid training or experience is helpful but it is not essential. Ski Patrollers must be over 18 years of age. Ski
Patrollers start by completing one or two years as a Trainee. During this time you will ski with experienced Patrollers and assist them in their duties. You will learn about the equipment used, radio procedures and by
attending morning training sessions you will become experienced in all aspects of Patrolling.
The next step is to complete the Australian Ski Patrol Association (ASPA) Advanced Emergency Care course. This
is run every year in Melbourne over three weekends during April and May. This is the advanced first aid course for all Ski Patrollers in Australia. Satisfactory completion of ASPA enables you to become a fully qualified
Ski Patroller.
Patrollers are expected to be on patrol for at least 6 days in a season and attend scheduled training days. All Patrollers must requalify in Cardio-Pulmonary Resusitation and use of
pain relief medication every year and recertify their ASPA Emergency Care qualification every three years.
If you require any further information, you could speak to any Patroller or any of the Rangers. If
you are interested in joining the Ski Patrol e-mail the Patrol Secretary for an "Expression of interest in Membership" form.
